A large crowd attended the funeral services at Spring Hill Church,
June 6, of Mr. John Henry Routon, who passed away at the venerable age of 89 at his home near Routon, June 4. Services were conducted by Rev. D. T. Spaulding and Elder M. E. Wooldridge.
Mr. Routon, a native of Henry County, born March 16, 1832, on the Big Sandy River, was first married to Miss Martha Hunt Wimbish in 1855.
To this union was born 12 children, of whom 7 lived to be grown,
to-wit: Wm. of Carroll County, who died two years ago;
Mrs. J. M. Bushart of Routon; R. C. Routon of Paris; Mrs. H. E. Watters of Jackson; V.V. Routon of Louisiana; T. E. Routon and H. E. Routon of Texas; who survive him.
He spent his entire life since he was 23 years old on his farm near Routon. A man of unusual ability and intelligence – he was always busy. Well informed and a great reader, he kept up with current issues and took at great interest in national affairs.
He was the pioneer prohibitionist of his section though he loved the principles of Democracy.
He was converted and joined the Baptist Church at Spring Hill when he
was under 30 years old and was a faithful consistent member, always ready with his means to contribute to the financial needs of his church. He was a great Bible student and read the Bible through several times during the past year or so.
He was optimistic, thought bereft of the sense of hearing,
and always had a cheerful word and a bright smile
for all with whom he came in contact.

The funeral service for former Henry Countian Daniel Foster “Dan” Brown of Camden was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Plunk Funeral Home in Camden. Cremation followed the service.
Visitation was Saturday and Sunday.
Brown, 75, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Camden Healthcare.
His wife, Joy Brown, survives.
Local survivors are a sister: Norma B. Steele; a niece: Sharon (Mike) Loveall; and a nephew: John (Kathy) Steele, all of Paris.
Born June 1, 1936, he was a son of the late John Foster Brown and Cornelia Routon Brown.
He also leaves two sons: Daniel Foster (Carol) Brown Jr. of Nashville and Stephen Earl Brown and wife Myong Hui of Seoul, Korea;
one daughter: Cynthia Ann (Thomas) Rivas of Stockbridge, Ga.; a stepson: Johnny Sparks of Camden; and four grandchildren.
A brother, John Alexander Brown, also preceded him in
death.
